Selby Town FC 1 – 1 Club Thorne Colliery

NCEL Division One – 30th July 2024

Selby Town recorded their first goal and point on Tuesday night with an entertaining one all draw with new club to the league, Club Thorne Colliery, at a sunny Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium.

A great crowd of 287  saw Town under the cosh in the early exchanges with Thorne forcing a number of corners but Town had a couple of chances of their own and indeed missed a great one when Harrison Rowley was brought down in the penalty area in the 22nd minute but Harry Clapham struck his penalty kick against the underside of the crossbar and Ned Dry headed the rebound over.

George Bason in the home goal made a great save from a Thorne freekick but the visitors took the lead on twenty eight when Jacob Mclouglin head a corner home.

At the start of the second half Bason was again forced into a good save but Town certainly showed more purpose now and got the equaliser seven minutes into the half when Dec Racher was bundled over in the penalty box and Ned Dry stepped up to cool beat Rhys Toft in the visitors goal. Caden McGrath then went on a run down the right and shot just over the bar.

Thorne also came close when a shot whistled across the face of the home goal.

There were chances for either side but in particular for Town, Jack Bull and Connor Ryan, at the centre of the back four, both showed quality.
